Táplálékhálózat refers to the complex network of feeding relationships within an ecosystem. It illustrates how energy and nutrients are transferred from one organism to another through consumption. Unlike a simple food chain, which depicts a single linear path of energy flow, a food web shows multiple interconnected food chains, creating a more realistic representation of ecological interactions.

At the base of most táplálékhálózatok are producers, typically plants or algae, which generate their own food through photosynthesis. These producers are then consumed by primary consumers, which are herbivores. Secondary consumers, omnivores or carnivores, feed on primary consumers. Detritivores and decomposers, such as fungi and bacteria, play a crucial role by breaking down dead organic matter from all trophic levels, returning essential nutrients to the ecosystem for producers to utilize again.

Diverse ecosystems tend to have more complex and robust food webs, meaning they can withstand the loss of a species more effectively.
