TuamotuGambier

TuamotuGambier, also known as the Îles Tuamotu-Gambier in French, is an administrative subdivision of French Polynesia that combines the Tuamotu Archipelago and the Gambier Islands. It lies in the central and southern Pacific Ocean and is one of the five administrative divisions that make up the overseas collectivity of France.

Geography: The Tuamotu Archipelago is a vast chain of low-lying coral atolls and a few islands stretching across the central Pacific, consisting of dozens of atolls and numerous islets. The Gambier Islands lie to the southeast, anchored by Mangareva, and include several volcanic islands and interspersed islets. The two groups together host a dispersed population with major activity on a handful of atolls and on Mangareva.

Economy and culture: The economy centers on pearl farming, fishing, and coconut products, with tourism playing a limited but growing role in some atolls. Languages and cultural traditions are Polynesian, with local variations across the islands.

Administration and governance: As an administrative subdivision of French Polynesia, Tuamotu-Gambier is part of the French overseas collectivity and operates under the territorial government in coordination with island councils and communes. The region participates in national French Polynesian institutions and elections.
