Transferriinisaturoitumisella is a Finnish term derived from the medical concept of transferrin saturation, which reflects the percentage of transferrin molecules in the plasma that are bound to iron. Transferrin is the primary carrier protein for iron in the bloodstream, and its saturation is a key indicator of iron status and homeostasis. The transferrin saturation ratio is calculated by dividing the serum iron concentration by the total iron-binding capacity (TIBC) and multiplying by 100. Normal values typically range from 20 % to 50 %; values below 20 % suggest iron deficiency, whereas values above 50 % can indicate iron overload or conditions such as hemochromatosis. The test is commonly included in iron panels to aid in diagnosing anemia, monitoring treatment, and evaluating risk for inflammatory or chronic diseases. While transferrin saturation is useful, it should be interpreted alongside ferritin, hemoglobin, and other iron-related parameters.
