Toncontín

Toncontín International Airport is the primary airport serving Tegucigalpa, the capital of Honduras. Located in a mountainous region, it is renowned for its extremely short runway and challenging approach, making it one of the most difficult airports for pilots to navigate worldwide. The runway measures only 1,867 meters and sits at an elevation of 1,005 meters above sea level.

The airport has been the site of numerous aviation incidents throughout its history due to its hazardous topography. In 2008, a plane carrying President Manuel Zelaya overshot the runway, drawing international attention to the airport's dangerous conditions. Despite these challenges, Toncontín remains an important transportation hub for Honduras, connecting the capital with domestic destinations and international locations in Central America, Mexico, and the United States.
