Tiroksinës

Tiroksinës, also known as thyroxine or T4, is a hormone produced by the thyroid gland, a small butterfly-shaped gland located in the neck. It plays a crucial role in regulating metabolism, which is the process by which the body converts food into energy. Tiroksinës influences almost every cell in the body, affecting heart rate, body temperature, growth, and development.

The production of tiroksinës is regulated by the pituitary gland, which secretes thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH). TSH prompts the thyroid gland to release tiroksinës into the bloodstream. The body then converts most of the tiroksinës into triiodothyronine (T3), a more active form of the hormone.

Imbalances in tiroksinës levels can lead to various health conditions. Hypothyroidism occurs when the thyroid gland does not produce enough tiroksinës, leading to a slowed metabolism, fatigue, weight gain, and feeling cold. Hyperthyroidism, on the other hand, occurs when the thyroid gland produces too much tiroksinës, resulting in an accelerated metabolism, weight loss, rapid heartbeat, and anxiety. Medical professionals diagnose and treat these conditions through blood tests and, if necessary, medication or other therapies.
