Tianwen1s

Tianwen-1 was China's first independent interplanetary mission, aiming to explore Mars. Launched on July 23, 2020, by the China National Space Administration (CNSA), the mission comprised an orbiter, a lander, and a rover named Zhurong. The primary objectives of Tianwen-1 were to conduct a comprehensive survey of Mars, study its surface features, geology, and potential for life, and test key technologies for future Martian exploration.

After a seven-month journey, the Tianwen-1 spacecraft entered Martian orbit in February 2021. Following an orbital adjustment period and extensive reconnaissance of potential landing sites, the lander successfully touched down on the southern part of Utopia Planitia on May 14, 2021. This marked a significant achievement as China became the second nation to successfully land a spacecraft on Mars.

The Zhurong rover, deployed from the lander, began its exploration shortly after. Equipped with a suite of scientific instruments, including a ground-penetrating radar, a multispectral camera, and a magnetometer, Zhurong was tasked with investigating the Martian subsurface, analyzing the composition of rocks and soil, and studying the planet's magnetic field. The mission was designed to last for approximately 90 Martian sols (about 92 Earth days), but Zhurong significantly exceeded its planned operational life. The orbiter continued to circle Mars, collecting data and relaying communications for the rover. Tianwen-1 represented a major leap in China's space exploration capabilities and contributed valuable scientific data about the Red Planet.
