Tianhou, often referred to as Mazu, is a prominent sea goddess worshipped in Chinese folk religion and Taoism. She is believed to be the protector of sailors and seafarers, offering guidance and safety during voyages. Her origins are traced to a young woman named Lin Moniang, who lived in Fujian province during the Song Dynasty. Legend states she possessed supernatural abilities, including foreseeing storms and rescuing drowning fishermen.
After her death, her spirit was said to continue protecting those at sea. Over centuries, her veneration
