Tehkan

Tehkan is a Japanese video game developer and publisher. The company was founded in 1981 and originally focused on developing arcade games. Some of Tehkan's early notable arcade titles include "War of Aero" and "Guardian".

In the mid-1980s, Tehkan gained significant recognition for its arcade hit "Space Invaders Part II", though this was a sequel to a game by a different developer. The company also produced "Battle City" and "Clu Clu Land" for the Famicom.

In 1986, Tehkan rebranded itself as Tecmo. This rebranding marked a significant shift in the company's identity and its future direction. Under the Tecmo name, the company continued to develop and publish video games across various platforms, achieving widespread success with franchises such as "Ninja Gaiden", "Dead or Alive", and "Fatal Frame". While Tehkan as a name ceased to be used publicly after the rebranding, its legacy is tied to the foundation and early successes of what would become Tecmo, a major player in the video game industry for decades.
