In industrial applications, tartratebased materials can be found in cleaning solutions, particularly for metal surfaces, due to their chelating properties. They can also be used in pharmaceuticals, for example, as excipients in tablet formulations or as components in effervescent preparations. The medical field also utilizes tartrates, such as in certain laxatives. Historically, tartratebased compounds have been employed in textile dyeing and as chemical reagents in laboratories. The biodegradability of tartaric acid makes it an environmentally friendly option in many applications compared to synthetic alternatives.
