Tantia

Tantia, also spelled Tantya or Tatya, is a name used in India as a given name or nickname. The best-known bearer of the name is Tatya Tope (also Tantia Tope), a 19th-century general who played a major role in the Indian Rebellion of 1857 against British rule. Born in 1814 in central India, he rose to command rebel forces and was noted for his mobility and use of guerrilla tactics. He continued to campaign against British forces into 1859, when he was captured and executed.
