TIA/EIA-568, or the TIA/EIA-568 series, is a family of telecommunications cabling standards developed by the Telecommunications Industry Association (TIA) and the Electronic Industries Alliance (EIA). It defines the structure, performance, and testing requirements for the cabling infrastructure used in commercial buildings to support voice, data, and video networks. The standards cover copper and fiber optic cabling, outlets, patch panels, labeling, and administration, and establish a concept of a structured cabling system with defined horizontal, backbone, and work-area elements.

Two widely used wiring schemes are defined: TIA/EIA-568A and TIA/EIA-568B, which specify different pinouts for the 8-position RJ-45 connectors. In 568A the order is 1 white/green, 2 green, 3 white/orange, 4 blue, 5 white/blue, 6 orange, 7 white/brown, 8 brown; in 568B the order is 1 white/orange, 2 orange, 3 white/green, 4 blue, 5 white/blue, 6 green, 7 white/brown, 8 brown.

The series has evolved through revisions such as 568-A, 568-B, and later updates that align cabling categories like Cat 5e, Cat 6, and Cat 6A with defined performance criteria. It is widely adopted for enterprise and data-center cabling and is harmonized with ISO/IEC 11801 to support interoperability. Compliance typically involves testing channel length and transmission performance to verify that the installed cabling meets the defined criteria.
