Tørkekapasiteten is a term used to describe the maximum amount of material that can be dried by a drying system in a single operation, typically expressed as a mass (for example kilograms of wet fabric) in consumer appliances or as throughput (kilograms per hour) in industrial equipment. The concept covers both the load size and the ability of the equipment to remove moisture to a desired final moisture level.

In domestic drying devices, such as tumble dryers, tørkekapasiteten is usually specified by the manufacturer as the maximum dryable load per cycle. The stated capacity is based on typical moisture content of mixed fabrics and does not guarantee identical results for every fabric type. Overloading a dryer reduces airflow and heat transfer, lengthening cycle times and potentially leaving garments damp or unevenly dried. Modern machines may use moisture sensors or dryness programs to optimize energy use and avoid over-drying.

In industrial drying processes, tørkekapasiteten refers to the throughput, measured in kilograms per hour or similar units, and is influenced by initial moisture content, target final moisture, drying method (e.g., heated air, vacuum, or infrared), and equipment design (rotary, belt, or tray dryers). Energy consumption per kilogram of water removed and equipment efficiency are important accompanying metrics.

Choosing appropriate tørkekapasiteten involves matching the load characteristics and desired dryness with the capabilities of the dryer, considering energy costs, fabric care, and process efficiency. Regular maintenance of filters, vents, and heat transfer surfaces supports achieving the stated capacity.
