Sähkövalon

Sähkövalon, meaning electric light in Finnish, refers to the illumination produced by electricity. This fundamental invention transformed human society by extending the usable hours of the day, enabling nighttime activities, and improving safety and productivity. Early forms of electric light included the incandescent lamp, where an electric current heats a filament until it glows. While largely superseded by more energy-efficient technologies, incandescent bulbs laid the groundwork for modern lighting.

Significant advancements led to the development of fluorescent lamps, which use an electric current to excite mercury vapor, producing ultraviolet light that then causes a phosphor coating to emit visible light. LEDs are semiconductor devices that emit light when an electric current passes through them.
