Szénsavként refers to carbonic acid in its dissolved form within water. Carbonic acid is a weak acid with the chemical formula H2CO3. It is formed when carbon dioxide (CO2) gas dissolves in water. The reaction is reversible, meaning carbonic acid can also decompose back into carbon dioxide and water. This process is crucial in many natural phenomena, including the carbon cycle and the buffering of pH in aquatic environments.

The presence of carbonic acid is responsible for the slightly acidic nature of rainwater and natural bodies of water. When carbon dioxide from the atmosphere dissolves in rainwater, it forms carbonic acid, lowering the pH.
