Syväpurkaus

Syväpurkaus, translated literally as "deep discharge," is a term used in the context of battery technology, particularly in Finnish discourse. It refers to a state where a rechargeable battery, such as a lithium-ion battery, is discharged to a voltage level significantly below its normal operating range. This deep discharge can be detrimental to the battery's health and longevity.

When a battery is deeply discharged, certain chemical reactions within it can become irreversible. This can lead to a reduction in the battery's capacity, meaning it can hold less charge over time. In severe cases, a deep discharge can render a battery unusable or even cause permanent damage, potentially leading to safety issues. Battery management systems are designed to prevent such deep discharge states by cutting off power supply when the voltage reaches a critical low point.
