Synthélabo

Synthélabo was a French pharmaceutical company headquartered in Paris. Founded in the late 20th century through the consolidation of several French laboratories, it focused on the development, manufacture, and marketing of prescription medicines for global markets. In 2004, Synthélabo merged with Sanofi, forming Sanofi-Synthelabo, a major player in the global pharmaceutical industry. Later that year, Sanofi-Synthelabo merged with Aventis to create Sanofi-Aventis, expanding its portfolio and geographic reach.

The Sanofi-Aventis group was renamed Sanofi in 2011, and the Synthélabo name ceased to exist as an independent entity. Nevertheless, its legacy remains part of Sanofi’s corporate history and its evolution as a major global pharmaceutical company. The mergers helped consolidate France’s pharmaceutical industry and contributed to Sanofi’s emergence as a leading diversified group with a broad product line spanning prescription medicines and vaccines.
