Svavelatomen
Svavelatomen refers to an atom of the element sulfur. Sulfur is a chemical element with the symbol S and atomic number 16. It is a nonmetal and its atoms have an electron configuration of [Ne] 3s^2 3p^4, meaning they have two electrons in the outermost shell. This configuration makes sulfur highly reactive, as it readily gains two electrons to achieve a stable octet, forming sulfide ions (S^2-). Alternatively, sulfur atoms can form covalent bonds with other nonmetals, such as oxygen or hydrogen, or even bond with other sulfur atoms to form ring or chain structures. Allotropes of sulfur exist, with the most common being rhombic and monoclinic sulfur, which differ in their crystal structure. Sulfur is essential for life, playing a crucial role in amino acids and proteins. In its elemental form, svavelatomen is a yellow, brittle solid.
