Suojelusuhteet

Suojelusuhteet is a Finnish term that translates to "protection relationships" or "guardianship relationships." It refers to a legal and social framework in Finland that allows an adult, typically a close relative or friend, to be appointed as a guardian or protector for another adult who is unable to manage their own affairs due to illness, disability, or other reasons. This arrangement is established to ensure the well-being and interests of the person in need of protection.

The primary purpose of suojelusuhteet is to safeguard the rights and interests of individuals who lack the legal capacity to make decisions concerning their personal or financial matters. The appointed guardian, known as a "suojelija," has the responsibility to manage the protected person's assets, make decisions about their care and housing, and represent them in legal and administrative matters. The establishment of suojelusuhteet involves a legal process overseen by the District Court.
