Substraatalkuun, also known as substrate fermentation, is a biological process where microorganisms break down organic matter in the absence of oxygen. This process is crucial in various environmental and industrial contexts. In natural environments, substrate fermentation plays a significant role in nutrient cycling and soil health. It helps decompose organic waste, such as plant and animal remains, into simpler compounds that can be reused by other organisms.
