A spektraldensitometer is an instrument used to measure the spectral density of light reflected from or transmitted through a sample. This means it analyzes the amount of light at specific wavelengths across the electromagnetic spectrum. Unlike a standard densitometer, which measures overall optical density, a spektraldensitometer provides a more detailed spectral fingerprint. This capability is crucial in applications where the precise color and spectral characteristics of a material are important.

The core principle of a spektraldensitometer involves illuminating a sample with a broad spectrum of light and then measuring the intensity of light that is reflected or transmitted at discrete, narrow wavelength intervals.
