Sociolingvistikában is the Hungarian term for sociolinguistics. Sociolinguistics is a branch of linguistics that examines the relationship between language and society. It explores how social factors, such as socioeconomic status, ethnicity, gender, age, and geographic region, influence language use and how language, in turn, shapes social structures and identities.

Researchers in sociolinguistics study various phenomena, including language variation and change, language attitudes, language policy, and multilingualism. They investigate dialectology, the study of regional language variations, and social dialects, which are variations associated with different social groups. The field also looks into code-switching, the practice of alternating between two or more languages or varieties of language in conversation, and language and power, analyzing how language is used to establish and maintain social hierarchies.

Key concepts within sociolinguistics include linguistic variability, the idea that language is not uniform but varies across different speakers and contexts, and linguistic innovation, the processes by which new linguistic features emerge and spread. Sociolinguistics aims to provide a comprehensive understanding of language as a dynamic social phenomenon, recognizing that language use is deeply embedded within the social contexts in which it occurs.
