Sisäpolttoainekone

Sisäpolttoainekone, known in English as an internal combustion engine (ICE), is a heat engine where the combustion of a fuel occurs with an oxidizer (usually air) in a combustion chamber that is an integral part of the working fluid flow circuit. The expansion of the high-temperature and high-pressure gas generated by the combustion process produces useful work by applying pressure to a component of the engine, such as pistons or turbine blades, resulting in motion.

The key characteristic of an internal combustion engine is that the combustion process takes place *inside* the engine itself. This is in contrast to external combustion engines, such as the steam engine, where the heat source is external to the engine. In an ICE, the working fluid is directly involved in the combustion, and the energy released from the fuel is converted into mechanical energy through the expansion of these combustion products.

Common fuels used in internal combustion engines include gasoline, diesel fuel, natural gas, and propane. These engines are widely used in transportation, including cars, trucks, motorcycles, and airplanes, as well as in many industrial applications and power generation. The operating principle typically involves a cycle of intake, compression, combustion (power), and exhaust, repeated continuously to produce power. There are two main types: spark-ignition engines (like gasoline engines) and compression-ignition engines (like diesel engines).
