Silmäkuopans
Silmäkuopans refers to the bony cavity within the skull that houses the eyeball, its associated muscles, blood vessels, nerves, and connective tissues. This structure, also known as the orbit, is crucial for protecting the delicate eye and providing a stable platform for its movement. The orbit is formed by several bones of the skull, including the frontal bone, zygomatic bone, maxilla, ethmoid bone, lacrimal bone, sphenoid bone, and palatine bone. These bones create a pyramidal-shaped space, with the apex pointing towards the posterior of the skull.
Within the silmäkuopans, the eyeball is suspended and protected by orbital fat, which acts as a cushion.
