Serosos

Serosos refers to a category of glands in the body that secrete a watery, protein-rich fluid. This fluid, known as serous fluid, is distinct from the thicker, mucin-rich secretions produced by mucous glands. Serous glands are typically found in exocrine glands, meaning they release their secretions onto an epithelial surface, either directly or through a duct.

Examples of serous glands include the salivary glands, which produce saliva containing enzymes like amylase to begin carbohydrate digestion. The pancreas also has serous acinar cells that secrete digestive enzymes into the small intestine. Sweat glands, responsible for thermoregulation, are another example, producing a serous fluid that evaporates from the skin to cool the body. The lacrimal glands, which produce tears, are also serous glands, providing lubrication and protection for the eyes. The glands of the inner ear, contributing to the production of endolymph and perilymph, also have a serous component. The characteristic watery nature of serous secretions is due to their low protein and mucin content.
