Sekretionssätt

Sekretionssätt refers to the manner in which glands release their secretions. This process can be categorized into three primary types: merocrine, apocrine, and holocrine secretion.

Merocrine secretion is the most common type. In this method, the secretory cells produce and release their products through exocytosis without any loss of cellular material. The cell membrane remains intact, and the product is discharged in vesicles. Examples of merocrine glands include salivary glands, sweat glands, and pancreatic glands.

Apocrine secretion involves the loss of a portion of the apical cytoplasm along with the secretory product. The secretory vesicles accumulate at the cell's apex and bud off, taking a small amount of the cell membrane and cytoplasm with them. The remaining cell can then regenerate and continue secreting. Mammary glands and some sweat glands exhibit apocrine secretion.

Holocrine secretion is the most destructive method for the secretory cell. In this type, the entire cell accumulates the secretory product and then undergoes programmed cell death, rupturing to release its contents. The dead cell fragments and the accumulated secretion are discharged. Sebaceous glands, which secrete sebum, are a prime example of holocrine glands. After releasing their secretion, these cells are replaced by new cells originating from the basal layer. Understanding these different sekretionssätt is crucial in histology and physiology for comprehending glandular function and tissue dynamics.
