Seansivõtmega

Seansivõtmega is an Estonian term that translates to "with a session key" or "using a session key" in English. It refers to a cryptographic key that is generated for a specific communication session between two parties. This key is temporary and is discarded once the session ends. The primary purpose of using a session key is to enhance security by encrypting data exchanged during that particular session.

The process typically involves an initial exchange where the two parties securely establish a shared secret, which then becomes the session key. This session key is then used to encrypt and decrypt all subsequent messages within that communication session. By using a unique key for each session, the risk of a compromised key affecting past or future communications is significantly reduced. If an attacker were to gain access to a session key, they would only be able to decrypt the data from that specific session.

Session keys are a fundamental component in many secure communication protocols, such as TLS (Transport Layer Security), which is commonly used to secure web browsing (HTTPS). They offer a balance between security and efficiency, as generating and managing long-term keys for every communication can be computationally expensive. The use of session keys ensures that even if a long-term secret is compromised, the security of ongoing or future sessions is not necessarily affected.
