Schulträger
A Schulträger is a German term that translates to "school carrier" or "educational authority." It refers to the legal entity responsible for the establishment, maintenance, and operation of a school. In Germany, the responsibility for schools is largely decentralized and falls to different levels of government and sometimes private organizations.
The most common Schulträger are municipalities (Gemeinden) and districts (Landkreise). Municipalities typically operate elementary schools (Grundschulen)
Beyond public authorities, religious organizations and private associations can also act as Schulträger for private schools.
