Schlüsselpaaren

Schlüsselpaaren, meaning "key pairs" in German, refers to the fundamental concept of a public key and its corresponding private key in cryptography. This pairing is the cornerstone of asymmetric encryption, also known as public-key cryptography.

The private key is kept secret by its owner. It is used for operations that require proof of identity or for decrypting information that was encrypted using the corresponding public key. The public key, as its name suggests, can be freely distributed to anyone. Its primary functions are to encrypt data that can only be decrypted by the owner of the private key, and to verify digital signatures created with the private key.

The mathematical relationship between the public and private keys is such that it is computationally infeasible to derive the private key from the public key. This ensures the security of the system. When someone wants to send a secure message to another person, they use that person's public key to encrypt the message. Only the recipient, possessing the matching private key, can then decrypt and read the message. Similarly, when a person wants to digitally sign a document, they use their private key to create a signature. Anyone can then use the sender's public key to verify that the signature is authentic and that the document has not been tampered with. Schlüsselpaaren are essential for secure communication, digital signatures, and various other security applications on the internet.
