Sarsina

Sarsina is a commune in the Province of Forlì-Cesena in the Emilia-Romagna region of Italy. It is located in the Apennine Mountains, approximately 80 kilometers southeast of Bologna and about 30 kilometers south of Forlì. The town is situated in the valley of the Savio River.

Historically, Sarsina is known as the birthplace of Titus Maccius Plautus, one of the most important Latin playwrights of the Roman Republic. His comedies, such as "The Menaechmi" and "The Braggart Soldier," have had a lasting influence on Western literature and theatre. The archaeological area of Sarsina contains remnants of Roman settlements, including a theater and a villa, providing evidence of its ancient past.
