Salaria
Salaria is a term that refers to more than one topic in geography and biology. Via Salaria is an ancient Roman road that connected Rome with the Adriatic coast. Built to facilitate the transport of salt from coastal salt pans inland, the road's name derives from the Latin word for salt. It formed an important axis in the Roman road network and influenced the development of settlements along its route. In modern Italy, the historic route is commemorated in the name of the Strada Statale 4 Salaria (SS 4), an existing road that runs roughly northeast from Rome toward the Adriatic region.
