SaintGérard
SaintGérard, also known as Saint Gerard of Brogne, was a medieval French saint and abbot. Born in the 10th century, he is primarily known for his role in the founding of the Premonstratensian Order, a Catholic religious order dedicated to the observance of the Rule of Saint Benedict. SaintGérard was born into a noble family in the region of Brogne, which is now part of Belgium. He received a thorough education and was well-versed in both secular and religious studies. After his education, he became a hermit for several years, seeking spiritual guidance and solitude. In 1098, he founded the Premonstratensian Order with his friend and fellow hermit, Saint Norbert. The order was established to promote the observance of the Rule of Saint Benedict and to provide spiritual guidance to the laity. SaintGérard served as the first abbot of the Premonstratensian Order until his death in 1109. He is remembered for his piety, his dedication to the observance of the Rule of Saint Benedict, and his role in the founding of the Premonstratensian Order. SaintGérard is celebrated on May 20th in the Catholic Church. His feast day is also celebrated by the Premonstratensian Order.
