SPF, DKIM, and DMARC are email authentication methods used to verify the legitimacy of an email's sender. SPF (Sender Policy Framework) is a simple email-validation system designed to detect forged sender addresses in emails. It works by publishing a list of IP addresses that are allowed to send email on behalf of a domain. DKIM (DomainKeys Identified Mail) adds a layer of security by allowing the receiver to check that an email was indeed sent and authorized by the owner of the domain. DMARC (Domain-based Message Authentication, Reporting & Conformance) builds on SPF and DKIM by providing a policy framework that tells email receivers what to do if an email fails the SPF or DKIM checks. It also generates reports to help domain owners monitor and improve their email security. Together, these protocols help reduce email spoofing, phishing, and other email-based attacks.
