Ridván

Ridván is a significant period in the Bahá'í Faith, a monotheistic religious movement founded by Bahá'u'lláh in the 19th century. It is an annual observance that commemorates the revelation of the divine message by Bahá'u'lláh to Mírzá Muhammad 'Alí, also known as Áqá Muhammad Ridván, in the year 1863.

Ridván, which translates to "Paradise" in Persian, is a 12-day period that marks the beginning of the Baha'i New Year. It is observed by Baha'is around the world who gather together to celebrate the divine revelation. During Ridván, Baha'is read sacred texts, engage in prayer and worship, and participate in community service activities.

The observance is significant because it marks the time when Bahá'u'lláh and his family were banished to Baghdad by the Ottoman authorities. It was during this time of exile that Bahá'u'lláh revealed a series of messages and teachings that would become the foundation of the Baha'i Faith.

Ridván is a time for Baha'is to reflect on the spiritual significance of the period and to renew their commitment to the teachings of Bahá'u'lláh. It is also a time for community building and service, as Baha'is come together to celebrate their faith and work for the betterment of society.

The duration of Ridván can vary, but it typically begins on the vernal equinox and continues for 12 days. During this time, many Baha'is also undertake pilgrimages to the House of Bahá'u'lláh in Baghdad, which marks the site of Bahá'u'lláh's revelation and exile.
