Ribosomistas are a speculative group of extraterrestrial beings proposed in science fiction. The concept, originating from the work of physicist and author Robert L. Forward, envisions lifeforms that do not rely on carbon-based chemistry or water as a solvent, as is common on Earth. Instead, ribosomistas are hypothesized to be silicon-based and to utilize liquid hydrogen as their biological medium.

The name "ribosomistas" is derived from the idea that their cellular machinery, analogous to Earth's ribosomes responsible for protein synthesis, would operate within a liquid hydrogen environment. This drastically different biochemistry would allow them to exist and thrive in conditions that are extremely cold and hostile to terrestrial life, such as the atmospheres of gas giant planets or the frigid outer reaches of solar systems.

Forward's exploration of ribosomistas in his novels, particularly "Rocheworld," delves into the implications of such alien life. Their metabolism might be slow due to the low temperatures, and their physical structures could be very different from what we typically imagine for life. The concept challenges anthropocentric views of life and opens up possibilities for a vast and diverse universe where life can arise in forms far beyond our current understanding and experience.
