The term retinohypophysial refers to a pathway connecting the retina of the eye to the hypophysis, also known as the pituitary gland. This connection involves nerve fibers that transmit information from the retina to the pituitary gland. While not as extensively studied as other neural pathways, the retinohypophysial tract is thought to play a role in regulating various physiological processes, particularly those influenced by light.

One of the primary functions associated with the retinohypophysial pathway is the regulation of circadian rhythms. Light detected by the retina is transmitted through this pathway to influence the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN) of the hypothalamus, which is the master clock of the body.
