Reparationsfaser refers to a concept within the field of fiber optics that describes a type of optical fiber designed to minimize or eliminate the effects of chromatic dispersion, particularly in long-haul telecommunications. Chromatic dispersion occurs when different wavelengths of light travel at slightly different speeds through an optical fiber, leading to signal distortion and limiting transmission distance.

Reparationsfaser technology aims to overcome this limitation by carefully controlling the refractive index profile of the fiber's core. This is achieved through precise manufacturing processes that create a non-uniform distribution of refractive index across the core's cross-section. The goal is to engineer the fiber so that the wavelengths that travel faster are also given a longer optical path, and vice-versa, effectively compensating for the speed differences and causing all wavelengths to arrive at the receiver at roughly the same time.

There are several approaches to designing reparationsfaser, including non-zero dispersion-shifted fibers (NZDSF) and dispersion-compensating fibers (DCF).
