Redoxfolyamatok
Redoxfolyamatok, or redox reactions, are a fundamental class of chemical reactions involving the transfer of electrons between chemical species. This transfer results in a change in the oxidation states of the involved atoms. Oxidation is defined as the loss of electrons, which leads to an increase in oxidation state. Conversely, reduction is the gain of electrons, resulting in a decrease in oxidation state. These two processes always occur simultaneously; one species cannot be oxidized unless another is reduced, and vice versa. The substance that loses electrons and is oxidized is called the reducing agent, as it causes the reduction of another substance. The substance that gains electrons and is reduced is called the oxidizing agent, as it causes the oxidation of another substance.
Redox reactions are ubiquitous in nature and play critical roles in many natural and industrial processes.
