Reaksjonstypene refers to the classification of chemical reactions. This categorization helps chemists understand, predict, and control chemical transformations. Common reaction types include combination reactions, where two or more reactants form a single product, and decomposition reactions, where a single compound breaks down into two or more simpler substances.

Another significant category is displacement reactions, also known as single replacement reactions, in which one element replaces another in a compound. Double displacement reactions, or metathesis reactions, involve the exchange of ions between two compounds. Acid-base reactions, a specific type of double displacement, occur when an acid and a base react to form a salt and water.

Combustion reactions are characterized by the rapid reaction between a substance and an oxidant, usually oxygen, to produce heat and light. Redox reactions, short for reduction-oxidation reactions, involve the transfer of electrons between chemical species. One species loses electrons (oxidation) while another gains electrons (reduction). Understanding these reaction types is fundamental to stoichiometry, reaction kinetics, and thermodynamics, enabling the study and application of chemical processes across various scientific and industrial fields.
