While nominal return, or hozadék, shows the percentage gain in monetary terms, reálhozadékot adjusts this figure by subtracting the inflation rate.

The formula for calculating reálhozadékot is approximately: Real Return = Nominal Return - Inflation Rate. A more precise calculation involves dividing one plus the nominal return by one plus the inflation rate, and then subtracting one. This accounts for the compounding effect of inflation. For example, if an investment yields a nominal return of 5% and the inflation rate is 2%, the nominal gain is 5%. However, due to inflation, the purchasing power of that gain is eroded. The approximate real return would be 3% (5% - 2%).

Understanding reálhozadékot is essential for making informed investment decisions. An investment might show a positive nominal return, but if the inflation rate is higher, the investor is actually losing purchasing power.
