Rajapointina

Rajapointina is a Finnish term used in mathematics to refer to a point that lies on the boundary of a set. In common mathematical Finnish, the form rajapointina expresses the role of a point as a boundary point, similar to other instrumental constructions used to describe function or role.

In topology, a point x is a boundary point of a set A if every open neighborhood of x intersects both A and the complement of A. The set of all boundary points of A is called the boundary of A, denoted ∂A. This concept is defined within the framework of topology and metric spaces, and it does not depend on a particular metric but on the notion of neighborhoods.

An example helps illustrate the idea: on the real line, let A = (0,1). The boundary points of A are 0 and 1, since every neighborhood of either point intersects both A and its complement. By contrast, points inside (0,1) are interior points, while points outside the closure of A are exterior points. Boundary points can be limit points of A or of its complement, highlighting their dual proximity to both sides of the boundary.
