RTCWeb

RTCWeb stands for Real-Time Communication on the Web. It is a set of open standards and technologies that enable peer-to-peer real-time communication directly between web browsers and mobile applications. This includes voice calls, video calls, and data sharing. RTCWeb aims to bring these capabilities to the web without requiring plugins or separate applications.

The core of RTCWeb is built upon several key protocols. These include the Session Description Protocol (SDP) for describing the media sessions, the Real-time Transport Protocol (RTP) for carrying the actual audio and video streams, and the Interactive Connectivity Establishment (ICE) framework for NAT traversal and connection establishment. The WebRTC API provides a standardized JavaScript interface for developers to access these underlying technologies.

RTCWeb is designed to be secure by default, utilizing encryption for all media streams. It also focuses on peer-to-peer communication, which can reduce server load and latency. However, it can also be used with media servers for more complex scenarios like group calls or broadcasting.

The development of RTCWeb is a collaborative effort involving various standardization bodies, most notably the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF). Its widespread adoption by major browser vendors has made it a foundational technology for many modern communication applications and services.
