RFCNummern

RFCNummern, or Request for Comments numbers, are a series of technical and organizational documents published by the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF) and the Internet Society (ISOC). These documents are foundational to the development and standardization of the internet. Each RFC is assigned a unique sequential number, starting with RFC 0001 in 1969.

RFCs cover a wide range of topics, including internet protocols, network architecture, terminology, and even humorous or biographical content. They are not always standards; some RFCs are informational, experimental, or historical. However, many of the core protocols that make the internet function, such as TCP/IP, HTTP, and DNS, were originally defined in RFCs that have since become Internet Standards.

The process of creating an RFC involves a community of engineers and researchers who propose, discuss, and refine ideas. This open and collaborative process is a hallmark of internet governance. Once an idea matures and gains consensus, it can be published as an RFC. Anyone can submit an RFC, though the process requires adherence to specific formatting and content guidelines. The RFC Editor is responsible for managing the publication and numbering of these documents. The RFC series serves as an invaluable historical record and a continuous source of technical specifications for the global internet.
