The most common and widely recognized form of päättelymuoto is Modus Ponens. This form states that if P implies Q, and P is true, then Q must also be true. Another significant form is Modus Tollens, which asserts that if P implies Q, and Q is false, then P must also be false.

Hypothetical Syllogism is another important päättelymuoto. It follows the pattern: if P implies Q, and Q implies R, then P implies R. Disjunctive Syllogism is also frequently encountered. It is structured as: P or Q is true, and P is false, therefore Q must be true.
