Pääräjähdysaineet

Pääräjähdysaineet, also known as primary explosives or initiators, are highly sensitive energetic materials that detonate readily upon receiving a relatively small stimulus. This sensitivity makes them unsuitable for use as main propellants or bursting charges but ideal for initiating the detonation of less sensitive secondary explosives. The primary function of pääräjähdysaineet is to convert a small input of energy, such as friction, impact, electrostatic discharge, or heat, into a rapid and violent detonation wave. This detonation wave then propagates into a larger mass of secondary explosive, causing it to detonate. Common examples include lead azide, mercury fulminate, and diazodinitrophenol (DDNP). These compounds are typically characterized by their relatively low heat of formation and the presence of weak chemical bonds that can be easily broken. Their use is strictly controlled due to their inherent instability and potential for accidental detonation.
