Pumpenstufen

Pumpenstufen refers to the stages within a pump, particularly in multi-stage centrifugal pumps. Each stage essentially consists of an impeller and a diffuser. As the fluid passes through the pump, it enters the first impeller, gains kinetic energy, and is then directed into the diffuser. The diffuser converts this kinetic energy into pressure energy. This process is repeated in each subsequent stage.

In a multi-stage pump, the fluid exits the diffuser of one stage and enters the impeller of the next stage. This sequential addition of energy allows the pump to achieve higher discharge pressures than a single-stage pump with the same impeller diameter. The number of stages directly correlates to the pump's head capacity, meaning more stages enable the pump to lift fluids to greater heights or overcome higher system resistances.

The design and arrangement of these stages are critical for efficient pump operation. Each stage must be precisely engineered to transfer energy effectively without causing excessive turbulence or energy loss. The internal passages, impeller vane angles, and diffuser shapes are all optimized to maximize the pressure increase per stage and minimize overall energy consumption.
