Pulverinhalators

A pulverinhalator is a type of inhaler used to deliver medication in a dry powder form directly into the lungs. It is a common device for managing respiratory conditions such as asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Unlike metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) which use a propellant, pulverinhalators rely on the patient's breath to draw the powdered medication from the device and into the airways.

These devices typically consist of a reservoir or blister pack containing the medication in a finely milled powder. When the patient inhales through the mouthpiece, a sufficient inspiratory flow rate is required to dislodge the powder from its container and aerosolize it. The powder is then carried into the lungs, where it can exert its therapeutic effect. Different types of pulverinhalators exist, including breath-actuated devices and those that require the patient to actively trigger the dose release before inhaling. The design of the pulverinhalator is crucial for ensuring efficient drug delivery and minimizing the amount of medication deposited in the mouth or throat. Proper technique, including the depth and speed of inhalation, is essential for effective use. Training and education are often provided to patients to ensure they can use their pulverinhalator correctly.
