Propozitionale

Propozitionale is a term used in logic, linguistics, and philosophy to describe matters related to propositions—the content, truth-conditions, or logical form of declarative statements. The term is used in Romanian-language discussions and is closely related to the English word propositional, as in propositional logic or propositional content.

Propositional logic studies propositions as the basic units and uses connectives such as and, or, not, and implies to form compound propositions. A proposition is a sentence that can be either true or false. The calculus of propositions, or propositional calculus, formalizes rules for deriving new propositions from given ones.

In linguistics and semantics, the propositional content of a sentence refers to what is being said, independent of how it is said. Sentences may express the same propositional content despite different linguistic forms. Propositional attitude reports state that a subject holds a mental relation to a proposition, as in believe that p, desire that p.

Philosophical discussions of propositional attitudes examine the intentionality of mental states toward propositions; issues include quotation, belief, knowledge, and attitude reports.

Across disciplines, propozitionale is used primarily in discussions of logic and semantics. In Romanian, other related terms include propoziție (sentence) and conținutul propozițional (propositional content).
