Propüüläädikhapet
Propüüläädikhapet, also known as 2-methylbutanoic acid, is a branched-chain carboxylic acid. It is a colorless liquid with a pungent, unpleasant odor, often described as cheesy or sweaty. Its chemical formula is C5H10O2 and its molar mass is 102.13 g/mol. Propüüläädikhapet is soluble in water and most organic solvents. It occurs naturally in some fermented foods and is a metabolic byproduct in certain organisms, including bacteria. Industrially, it can be synthesized through various chemical processes. It is used as a flavoring agent, particularly in artificial cheese and butter flavors, and in the production of esters which can have applications in fragrances and solvents. Propüüläädikhapet is also studied for its potential biological activities.
