Presünaptilistes refers to the state or condition that exists before a synapse fires. A synapse is the junction between two nerve cells, or neurons, where a signal is transmitted from one neuron to another. This transmission typically occurs through the release of neurotransmitters from the presynaptic neuron into the synaptic cleft, which then bind to receptors on the postsynaptic neuron. The presynaptic terminal is the specialized structure at the end of the axon of the presynaptic neuron that contains neurotransmitters.

Before a presynaptic neuron fires, it is in a state of readiness. This involves the synthesis, packaging, and storage of neurotransmitters within synaptic vesicles located in the presynaptic terminal. Ion channels within the presynaptic membrane are also in a specific state, allowing for the generation of an action potential that will eventually trigger neurotransmitter release. The resting potential of the presynaptic neuron must be maintained until a signal arrives to depolarize it. This preparatory phase is crucial for ensuring a rapid and efficient transmission of information across the synapse when the neuron is activated. Changes in the presynaptic state can significantly impact synaptic function, affecting learning, memory, and overall neural circuit activity.
