Porkkala

Porkkala, also known as Porvoo, is a town and municipality in Finland, located in the Uusimaa region. It is situated on the southern coast of Finland, approximately 60 kilometers west of Helsinki. The town is known for its historical significance and its role in the Cold War era.

Porkkala gained international attention during World War II when it was leased by the Soviet Union from Finland in 1940. The lease allowed the Soviet Union to establish a naval base in the area, which remained in use until 1956.
